September 2010
Dear Client,
Welcome to INNOVATE!, an administrative resource for small business owners. INNOVATE! is a product of Cybertary, a professional Virtual Assisting company. In these monthly emails we will be giving you numerous resources and tips you can use in your business, your home, your office and your life.
This month we are taking you “Back to school”, offering some suggestions on how you can fit in continuous learning to grow personally and professionally. To find the time for continuous learning, we are offering a primer on the “ABC’s of Delegation” on how each of us can take the first steps to free ourselves from the tasks that are holding us back.
Happy Learning!

The kids have new backpacks filled with pens and pencils. The schools have been cleaned and have rung the opening bell. The teachers are rested from their vacations (sort of). It’s school time – and not just for the K through 12 crowd. We all need to continue to hone our skills and knowledge base. Let September be a time when we each renew our commitment to ourselves for continuous improvement through unremitting learning.
Wait a minute. What’s that you say? You have already spent your time in school jail and now that you are an adult, you have learned everything you possibly could from education. I would propose a counter view that we need to continually learn in order to grow, both personally and in business. Ben Franklin, inventor, philosopher, statesman, etc., made the point “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. John Wooden once said “It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” |

At the core of any small business success story in any field of expertise, you'll find a person who has kept his or her skills and knowledge current. Competition among business owners and skilled workers is steep, and one of the best ways to stay ahead of your competitors is by staying up to speed in your profession. But what small business owner has the time to enroll in, let alone, show up for continuing classes, right? And what about your employees? It's not like you can just send them down to the on-site Training Department.

Remember when back to school shopping was as simple as buying a new pair of shoes? Back in the day, if teachers needed a little help, students provided their own pencils, paper, and maybe a folder or two. These days, parents are expected to shop for a long list of items–from zipper baggies to facial tissues, to even the basics, like paper, pencils, glue, and markers—for their student. This can all be a little overwhelming, both for the busy parent and for the pocketbook so we’ve compiled some tips to help make school supply shopping easier on the budget while also saving some precious time.
